SSRE was founded by Dr. Robert Apsler
and Dr. Wayne Harding in 1984 as a research and evaluation firm devoted to
furthering basic and applied social science research. SSRE staff have extensive experience in
basic and applied research in several areas, including highway safety,
evaluation of alcohol and drug abuse programs, development of alcohol and drug
abuse prevention strategies, basic alcohol and drug abuse research, health care,
educational research, and criminal justice. Dr. Apsler and Dr. Harding each have
over 30 years experience conducting basic and applied social science research,
organizing results into publishable material, and presenting findings to
professional and lay audiences. Below are some examples of the past and
current work of SSRE.
- Research study of the effectiveness of the
psycho-educational small-group component of a school-based student assistance
program using a randomized-controlled trial
- Evaluation of community-wide partnerships of
service providers, government, local organizations, and community members
designed to plan and coordinate alcohol and other drug abuse prevention efforts
- Development and evaluation of a prevention program to
reduce alcohol abuse among secondary school students
- Evaluation of a community-based day drug abuse treatment program
- Evaluation of services delivered by federally-funded
national training and technical assistance centers focusing on substance abuse
prevention, youth violence prevention and mental health promotion, and suicide
